In our last article we discussed what goes into the ground breaking phase of moving dirt for the first time. And if you’ve been watching your home grow from that pile of dirt to a towering structure of wood and nails, you know the excitement is real! But now we’ve reached the part of the journey where your imagination gets a reality check—in the best way possible.
It’s time to give your home a skeleton and style. At Andries Builders, we don't just build at you; we build with you. That’s why we host two of the most important dates on the construction calendar: the Framing Walkthrough and the Trim Walkthrough.
The Framing Walkthrough: The "X-Ray" View
This happens once the "bones" of the house are up but before the drywall hides all the magic. You’ll meet your Superintendent on-site to walk through every room.
- See the Spaces: This is the first time you’ll feel the actual scale of your rooms. You can stand in your future kitchen and finally see where the island will live!
- Check the "Vitals": We’ll discuss the placement of electrical outlets, switches, and plumbing stubs. Want an extra outlet in the pantry for the toaster? Now is the time to speak up!
- Addressing Concerns: If something looks different than you pictured on the 2D blueprints, your Superintendent is right there to explain the "why" or make the "how" happen.
Pro Tip: Take photos of every wall before the drywall goes up! It’s like having an X-ray of your house. You could even use them three years from now when you’re trying to hang a heavy mirror and need to know exactly where the studs and wires are.
The Trim Walkthrough: The "Finishing Touches"
Fast forward a bit! The walls are closed in, and it’s time to give the house its personality. The Trim Walkthrough is where we move from "structural" to "stylish."
- Layout Confirmation: You and your Superintendent will confirm the layouts for baseboards, crown molding, and those gorgeous window casings.
- Cabinetry & Built-ins: We’ll double-check the placement for your custom built-ins and mudroom lockers.
- The Details Matter: This is where we ensure the "jewelry" of the home—the doors, the wainscoting, and the fireplace mantels—are exactly where you want them.
Why These Walkthroughs are Game-Changers:
| Meeting | Your Main Goal | Why It’s Important |
|---|---|---|
| Framing | Verify the "Bones" | Much easier to move a light switch now than after the paint is dry! |
| Trim | Finalize the "Look" | Ensures the architectural character matches your vision perfectly. |
Communication is Key!
These meetings are designed to give you total peace of mind. We want you to feel 100% confident as we head into the home stretch. Your Superintendent is your guide, your expert, and your biggest advocate during these walks.
