After months of watching your vision rise from the ground—from the first foundation pour to the final stroke of paint—the moment you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. It’s Closing Day! At Andries Builders, we know that the final step of your custom home journey is more than just a legal meeting; it’s a celebration. But before you pop the champagne and start unloading the moving truck, we get to do one of our favorite things: the Final Walkthrough. It’s called a walkthrough but it’s more like a victory lap. This week’s article will cover exactly what you can expect when you walk through your front door for the very last time as a "client" and the first time as a "homeowner."

What is the Final Walkthrough?

The final walkthrough is a scheduled meeting (usually a few days before or the morning of closing) where you and your Andries Builders project manager tour your brand-new home.

The Goal: To ensure that everything is exactly as you dreamed, every system is humming along perfectly, and any tiny "punch list" items have been polished to perfection. It’s our chance to show you the "manual" for your masterpiece!

The "Victory Lap" Checklist

We take pride in our craftsmanship, so we want you to be as picky as we are! Here is a glimpse of what we’ll be checking together:

  • Mechanicals — HVAC, water heater, and electrical panels. — Learning how to set your smart thermostat for perfect cozy vibes!
  • Plumbing — Every faucet, showerhead, and toilet. — Watching that gorgeous kitchen sink in action for the first time.
  • Electrical — Every light switch, outlet, and fixture. — Trying out the dimmer switches like a kid at a science museum!
  • Surfaces — Countertops, flooring, and paint finishes. — Running your hand over your custom cabinetry—it’s actually yours!
  • Appliances — Stove, dishwasher, and fridge. — Hearing the "beep" of a brand-new, high-tech kitchen.

The Homeowner "Orientation"

One of the best parts of the walkthrough is the Orientation. Because your home is a custom build, it has its own unique "personality."

  • The "How-To": We’ll show you where your main water shut-off is, how to change your air filters, and how to operate any specialized tech or "smart home" features we’ve integrated.
  • The Maintenance Plan: We’ll chat about how to keep your custom finishes looking brand new for the next 20 years.

The Final Handshake (and the Keys!)

Once we’ve finished the tour and confirmed that every detail meets our "Andries Standard," it’s time for the formalities. We’ll head to the closing table to sign the final documents, and then—the best part—we place the keys in your hand.

Andries Wisdom: "We don't just build houses; we build the stage for your life's best memories. The final walkthrough is our favorite moment because we get to see your vision finally become your reality."

We want to to enjoy this for decades to come. And for those that are still in the "dreaming" phase, don't worry! 2026 is the perfect year to start the process so you can experience your own "Big Day" soon.
